Tory Lanez Stabbed 14 Times in Prison, Father Shares Positive Health Update

Rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is recovering after a brutal stabbing inside a California prison earlier this week. The 31-year-old artist was attacked on May 12th at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is currently serving a ten-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.

According to official reports and a statement from Lanez’s family, the rapper sustained 14 stab wounds in the attack: seven to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. The severity of the attack caused both of his lungs to collapse, necessitating immediate emergency care, including placement on a breathing apparatus.

“He Is Recovering Remarkably,” Says Father

At a press conference held on May 14th, Lanez’s father, Sonstar Peterson, provided a detailed and hopeful update on his son’s condition.

“All he knows is that he couldn’t breathe. He could hardly speak,” Peterson said, recounting the moments after the attack. “Upon which the officer turned around and looked at him and said, ‘No, we got to take him. He has to be airlifted.’”

Lanez was rushed to a nearby hospital by helicopter due to the critical nature of his injuries. His father confirmed that the rapper is now breathing on his own, and the tubes inserted into his lungs have been removed.

“The report from the hospital is that he is doing remarkably well,” Peterson added. “He’s recovering remarkably.”

Official Update Shared on Social Media

A statement shared on Lanez’s official social media account echoed his father’s optimism, detailing his physical condition and mental resilience in the aftermath of the assault.

“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through,” the post read. “He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

Investigation Ongoing, Inmate Suspect Identified

Authorities have identified the suspected attacker as 42-year-old Santino Casio, a fellow inmate currently serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. Casio has since been moved to restricted housing as an investigation into the stabbing unfolds. The motive behind the attack remains unknown at this time.

Prison officials have not commented on how the assailant was able to carry out such a violent attack inside the facility, though questions about prison security and inmate safety have begun to circulate.

Lanez Serving 10-Year Sentence

Tory Lanez is currently midway through a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2022 on three felony counts related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020. The incident, which became a high-profile legal battle, culminated in his sentencing in August 2023. Lanez will be eligible for parole in 2029.

The attack on Lanez has drawn attention to the broader issue of inmate safety, particularly for high-profile individuals who may face heightened risks behind bars. While the rapper recovers from life-threatening injuries, his family and supporters have rallied behind him, hoping his road to recovery continues in a positive direction.

As of now, Lanez remains hospitalized but stable, with a growing sense of gratitude from his family and fans for what many are calling a miraculous survival.
