Valencia’s manager, Ruben Baraja, wore a mask of frustration as he reflected on his team’s hard-fought 0-0 draw against Sevilla. Despite the absence of goals, Baraja refused to lay blame on a potential penalty decision that went against his side, choosing instead to commend his players for their valiant effort on the pitch.
“It’s important to recognize the value of this match,” Baraja asserted with a sense of pride. “We executed many aspects of our game plan effectively. The team displayed tremendous physical effort and maintained a consistent level of performance throughout the match.
We fought tooth and nail until the final whistle, and while it’s disappointing, these are the realities of football, and we must acknowledge and salute the efforts of our players.”
When questioned about the contentious penalty incident involving Dimitri Foulquier, Baraja remained diplomatic, opting not to pass judgment hastily. “I didn’t have the opportunity to see the incident live,” he admitted. “Upon reviewing it quickly, it appears that Foulquier was impeded in his attempt to execute the action, perhaps due to the physical nature of the contest and the lack of clear shoulder-to-shoulder contact.”
Baraja’s measured response reflected his respect for the referee’s decision, acknowledging the inherent subjectivity in such pivotal moments of the game.
“While there may be a perception that it could have been a penalty, the referee deemed otherwise,” Baraja conceded. “It’s a decision we must accept, even if it may not align with our own interpretation of events.”
Despite the stalemate, Baraja found solace in Valencia’s overall performance, lamenting only their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. “Sevilla may take satisfaction in their defensive display,” he acknowledged.
“However, I firmly believe that we were the dominant side on the pitch. We created the better chances and controlled large portions of the game.
We deserved more than just a point, but ultimately, our failure to convert our chances into goals prevented us from securing all three points.”
