Sadly, during the past 18 months, racism directed towards Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has been exposed in a number of prominent cases. The most famous was probably when the Brazilian lost his cool over comments and actions made by certain Valencia supporters at the Mestalla in May of last year. Although Mouctar Diakhaby did not participate in the Valencia game, he is undoubtedly aware of everything about it. Given that Vinicius was allegedly the victim of racist abuse three years prior from then-Cadiz player Juan Cala, he would have had a great deal of empathy for Vinicius.
Speaking with BeFootball (via Marca), Diakhaby said that he is aware of the belief that Vinicius is a provocateur, but that doesn’t mean that he should be treated racially.
Though provocative, Vinicius has his bounds. I won’t allow myself or anyone else to disparage someone’s race just because they act that way on the field.
Additionally, Diakhaby contrasted Vinicius’ response with his own two years earlier.
“In my opinion, La Liga did not take the appropriate action when my tale occurred, but when Vinicius’s incident occurred… They will look at it more at Real Madrid since they have greater standing there.
